Even after a year ‘Boycott Cadbury’ hashtag is haunting Cadbury as it again started trending on Twitter today after social media users targeted the company’s recent Diwali advertisement.
Sharing the advertisement, VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi objected to the use of 'Damodar' as the name of a poor lamp seller. As per the VHP leader, this has been done to show ‘someone with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's father's name in a poor light’.
"Chaiwale ke baap diyewala," wrote Sadhvi Prachi in the caption while sharing the advertisement. Other Twitter users also joined her and started tweeting calling for the boycott of Cadbury products in India.
Have you carefully observed Cadbury chocolate's advertisement on TV channels?

The shopless poor lamp seller is Damodar.
This is done to show someone with PM Narendra Modi's father's name in poor light. Chaiwale ka baap diyewala.

Well, this is not the first time that Cadbury is facing the wrath of Indian Twitter users. In 2021, a similar ‘boycott Cadbury’ was trending because of the claim that the company uses beef in its products.
Twitter users who made the 'Boycott Cadbury' trend shared a screenshot of the product description page of the Cadbury website, Australia. "Please note, if any of our Australian products contain gelatine in the ingredients, the gelatine we use is halal certified and derived from beef," the page reads.
Hi, The screenshot shared in the Tweet is not related to Mondelez products manufactured in India. All the products manufactured and sold in India are 100% vegetarian. The green dot on the wrapper signifies that.

This prompted Cadbury to release a statement clarifying that its products are 100 percent vegetarian and the green symbol on the wrapper stands for that.
