Windies star player Chris Gayle to retire from ODI after World Cup 2019; makes an official announcement

The classic hitting batsman of Windies, Chris Gayle has announced to take retirement from One-Day International after the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 to be held in England & Wales. The Windies cricketer board has made an announcement through an official tweet from their social media account. CWI (Cricket West Indies) revealed that Gayle made this announcement before One-day series practice against England.

Gayle had made comeback to One-Day International after a long break and he was included in the team to play two matches against England in ODI series. Chris Gayle is on the top in Windies when it comes to highest centuries in ODI and also the second batsman of Windies after Brian Lara to make highest runs in ODIs.

 

Christopher Gayle has played 284 ODI matches till now and he had made 9727 runs, in which he hit 23 centuries and 49 half centuries. While Brian Lara hit 10,405 runs in ODI. Gayle played the highest ODI scoring inning of 215 runs against Zimbabwe in 2015 World Cup, that is the highest for any Windies batsman in ODI.

Gayle in the last year October denied going India and Bangladesh tour and he played his last ODI match for Windies in July last year against Bangladesh. Gayle made his debut in 1999 against India and for Windies, he had played around 103 test matches and 56 T-20 matches.
