Failed VIP Housing Project: A Decade-Long Delay and Incomplete Construction

Damoh: The VIP housing project of the Nagar Palika has proven to be a failed endeavour. The project, which was initiated with great fanfare, has been stalled for years.

Most of the houses constructed under this project remain incomplete, and the few that have been completed are of poor quality. The buyers who had taken loans to purchase these houses are now regretting their decision.

The main reason for the failure of this project is the exorbitant prices of the houses. Initially, the prices were set at around Rs 30 lakh per house, which was too high for most buyers.

Later, the Nagar Palika reduced the prices to Rs 24 lakh, but by then, it was too late. The prices were still too high compared to the quality and location of the houses.

The construction agency responsible for the project abandoned it midway, leaving the houses incomplete. The reasons for this abandonment are still unclear, but it is alleged that the agency was not paid on time. Despite this, the Nagar Palika has not taken any action to complete the project.

The houses that have been constructed are of poor quality, with crumbling pillars, cracked walls, and broken doors. The buyers who had shown interest in purchasing these houses were deterred by the poor quality of construction.

The Nagar Palika had organized three auctions to sell these houses, but they failed to generate any interest. The few buyers who did show interest were discouraged by the poor quality of the houses.

The Nagar Palika's VIP housing project has turned out to be a white elephant, with huge financial losses. The project's failure has raised several questions, but there are no clear answers.

When contacted, Sushma Singh Dhakad, CMO, Damoh, said, "I am currently on leave and will provide information on this matter only when I return to office."

The failure of this project has left many questions unanswered, and the people of Damoh are still waiting for a resolution.
