Jharkhand Shocker: Alcoholic kills 12th wife after she tries to stop him from drinking

A 50-year-old alcoholic man killed his wife in Jharkhand’s Bokaro when she tried to stop him from consuming alcohol on April 3. The accused who has been identified as Ram Chandra Turi was sent to jail after police produced him in a court yesterday.

Turi married 40-year-old Savitri Devi 20 years ago and she was his 12th wife. The accused’s earlier wives had left him because of his drinking habit and fighting tendencies.

The incident took place in Giridih’s Tarapur village when the couple was alone. As per the villagers, Turi came home in a drunken state on the night of April 3 and started consuming alcohol again. When Savitri tried to stop him, he started thrashing her with a wooden stick. Savitri became unconscious and fell down, but Turi continued to beat her till she died.

The couple had four children of whom the eldest son, Rajkumar, works in Hyderabad as a labourer. Other three were away to attend a wedding ceremony in the village.

According to Tarapur village panchayat member Vinay Kumar Sao, the accused had 11 marriages earlier but all his wives left him because of his violent nature. He used to beat his wife. When Savitri tried to stop Ram Chandra Turi he killed her.

However, police haven’t confirmed that the accused had 11 marriages earlier.

When the children returned home after attending the marriage ceremony, they found their mother lying in the pool of blood. Villagers also rushed to the house and informed the police.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
