Pakistan bans 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s Jamat-ut-Dawa
Amidst the tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pulwama attack, Pak government banned the 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s Jamat-ut-Dawa (JuD) on Thursday.
The decision was during the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting which was chaired by the Pak Prime Minister Imran Khan. The meeting was conducted to review the National Action Plan in detail.
Hafiz Saeed is the man behind the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attacks. Earlier, he used to run Lashkar-e-Taiba which was banned by the Pakistan government and later, he formed Jamat-ut-Dawa.
In a statement released by the Government of Pakistan stated that ‘it was decided during the meeting to accelerate action against proscribed organisations.
‘It was further decided that Jamat-ut-Dawa and Falah-e- Insaniat Foundation be notified as proscribed organizations by the Ministry of Interior,’ Pakistan government press release said.

Pak PM has chaired a meeting of the National Security Council held on 21st February during which the discussion was held on the country’s security.
Moreover, Pakistan decided to ban Hafiz Saeed-led terror group JuD has come a day before the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) plenary meeting where the measures taken by Islamabad to curb money laundering and terror financing were to be reviewed.
In June 2018, Pakistan was put on the FATF grey list and also put on notice to be blacklisted by October 2019 if it didn’t stop the terror funding in the country.
