As per the reports of Reuters, at least 56 bodies have been recovered, Julfikar Rahman, a director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense in Dhaka told. However, the death toll could rise as searching is still continuing.

The blaze broke out on Wednesday night in a building at Chawkbazar area. Reportedly, the building was being used for both an apartment building and also as a chemical warehouse.

Some floors of the destroyed buildings had chemicals and plastic in storage.

Despite warnings of the high fatalities from fires after the incident occurred in 2010 when at least 123 people were killed, most buildings were using it as both residential and commercial purpose.

Authorities had also promised to bring the buildings under rules and regulations and would ban the chemical warehouses from the residential buildings.

Meanwhile, the death toll continues to rise and blaze couldn’t control yet. Some of the injured people were critical, said Samanta Lal Sen, head of a burn unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

This is a developing story...wait for more updates..
