PM Modi gets respect globally because he leads Mahatma Gandhi’s country: CM Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on November 1 said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi received respect globally because he leads the nation where the roots of democracy run deep even after more than 70 years. He further asserted that leaders of the world respect the PM because he leads Mahatma Gandhi’s country.  

"When PM Modi goes abroad, he gets so much respect. He gets the respect because he is the prime minister of the country of (Mahatma) Gandhi, where the roots of democracy run deep and where, even after more than 70 years of independence, democracy is alive," said CM Gehlot.

CM Gehlot shared the dais with PM Modi at the 'Mangarh Dham ki Gaurav Gatha', an event to recall the 1913 Mangarh massacre and to honour and remember the tribal freedom fighters.

During the event, PM Modi also declared the Mangarh Dham in the Banswara district of Rajasthan as a national monument.

As per the Prime Minister’s office, Mangarh Hill holds special importance for tribal communities of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.

During the freedom struggle, the Bhils and other tribes fought against the British. In 1913, over 1.5 lakh Bhils rallied at Mangarh Hill under the leadership of Shri Govind Guru. The Britishers, to stop the rally, opened fire at the gathering, leading to Mangarh Massacre where approximately 1500 tribals were martyred.

The event was also attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel.

Addressing the event, PM Modi recalled his days as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. "Ashok ji (Gehlot) and I had worked together as CMs. He was the most senior in our lot of CMs. Ashok ji is still one of the senior-most CMs among those who are sitting on the stage right now," he said.

Remembering the massacre of November 17, 1913 in Mangarh, the Prime Minister remarked that it was an example of extreme cruelty by British rule in India.

In the evening, PM Modi will visit Morbi, where 135 people were killed after the cable bridge over the Machchhu river collapsed on October 30.

Prime Minister Modi, in Kevadia on Monday, said that rescue operations were underway and there would be no laxity in rescue and relief efforts.
