Watch: MS Dhoni did something unexpected in World Cup match; shocked his fans
India was defeated by New Zealand in a warm-up match before the World Cup. The match saw India lost wickets at regular intervals after Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bowl first. Kohli explained his decision saying that it would put his men under pressure as batting first here can be difficult.
The match saw MS Dhoni take the field without his keeping gloves for the first time after ages. MS Dhoni was fielding while Dinesh Karthik was keeping at his place. Dhoni was last seen fielding when Rahul Dravid was captain of team India.
Indian batsmen couldn’t show much character while batting first as opener Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan both were dismissed by Trent Boult for just 2 runs. Skipper Virat Kohli was clean bowled by Colin deGrandhomme, a sight very rare to see. Kohli was dismissed for 18 runs.
KL Rahul was also bowled for just 6 runs by Trent Boult in the 6th over. Hardik Pandya scored 30 off 37 before James Neesham took his wicket. MS Dhoni with the bat could score only 17 runs before being dismissed by Tim Southee.
Ravindra Jadeja was the only batsman who crossed the 50-run mark in the Indian line-up. Jadeja was batting with calm and composure and also taking some bowlers for a ride when they bowled bad balls. Jadeja scored 54 runs off off 50 balls before he was dismissed by Ferguson.
Martin Guptill gave a good start to New Zealand in the second innings as he scored 22 runs before Hardik Pandya dismissed him. Skipper Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor snatched the game away from India’s jaw as they scored 67 and 71 runs respectively. In the end, New Zealand comfortably won by 6 wickets.
