England beat New Zealand to win the first super over final in World Cup history

First time in the history of World Cup a super over was played and that too in the final. The final of World Cup 2019 was tied between England and New Zealand and super over was played to decide the winner. The super over was also a tie and it was the superior team on the boundary count that got the trophy. England beat New Zealand to win their first World Cup and they became the third team to win it at home.

After winning the toss New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson decided to bat first. New Zealand scored 241 runs from 50 overs. Henry Nicholls scored 55 runs before he was dismissed by Liam Plunkett. Tom Latham fell short of just 3 runs from fifty in World Cup final as he was dismissed by Chris Woakes for 47 runs. Skipper Kane Williamson scored 30 runs before he was dismissed by Liam Plunkett.

In reply, New Zealand bowlers started nicely as they put England batsmen under pressure. New Zealand took wickets in regular intervals. Jason Roy scored 17 off 20 balls before he was dismissed by Matt Henry. Joe Root was dismissed by Colin de Grandhomme for just 7 runs. England skipper Eoin Morgan scored 9 runs before he was dismissed by James Neesham. Jonny Bairstow scored 36 runs before he was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson.

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler put up an amazing partnership of 100 runs. Jos Buttler was dismissed for 59 runs by Lockie Ferguson. Ben Stokes kept on playing while wickets, on the other hand, were falling like a pack of cards. Stokes remained unbeaten at 84 runs before the match was tied.

Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes came in to bat for England in the super over. Together they scored 15 runs including two boundaries. For the Kiwis, it was James Neesham and Martin Guptill who came in to bat. New Zealand scored 15 runs as well but the World Cup was awarded to England because of their superior boundary count in the match.

Ben Stokes was awarded the player of the match trophy for his unbeaten 84 runs knock. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was awarded the man of the tournament for his 578 runs and excellent captaincy.
