Action Against Vehicles with White Number Plates Operating as Taxis

Ahmedabad: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) and traffic police will take joint action against vehicles with white number plates operating as taxis in the city. This decision comes after the RTO office wrote to the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) regarding the misuse of private vehicles with white number plates as taxis.

According to the letter, the Transport and Vehicle Department issued notices on April 16, 2021, and October 6, 2023, prohibiting the use of non-transport vehicles with white number plates as aggregators. Despite this, many private companies continue to use these vehicles through online apps, violating the rules.

The Motor Vehicles Act 1988 provides for a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 192A for such violations. The RTO has instructed the traffic police to take action against these vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Rickshaw Drivers' Union has submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner of Police, demanding action against vehicles with white number plates and autorickshaws operating without permits.

Union President Vijay Makwana said that the RTO has issued instructions to take action against vehicles with white number plates, and the police have also been directed to take action. The union has demanded that action be taken against autorickshaws operating without permits as well.
