London [UK]: King Charles III was briefly hospitalised on Thursday after experiencing side effects from his cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace said, according to The New York Times.

Short hospital stay for observation
The palace confirmed that the 76-year-old monarch has now returned to his London residence, Clarence House. As a precaution, all his scheduled public engagements for Friday have been cancelled.

Cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatment
King Charles announced in February last year that he had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. While the palace has not revealed the specific side effects he experienced, they described them as temporary and requiring a short period of observation in hospital.

Active royal schedule despite illness
Despite his treatment, King Charles has maintained a busy schedule, recently hosting world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and visiting the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales.

No change in prognosis or future plans
The palace has not provided updates on his prognosis but assured that his recovery remains on track. Officials also stated that his planned travel, including an April visit to Italy, is expected to go ahead. However, a scheduled meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican has been cancelled due to the Pope's health issues.

Regret over cancelled engagements
The King had been set to receive credentials from three ambassadors and undertake public engagements in Birmingham on Friday. The palace said he was “greatly disappointed” to miss these events and hoped they could be rescheduled.

While his medical team may make minor adjustments to his schedule, officials emphasised that the King enjoys his public duties and sees them as beneficial to his well-being.
