Hyderabad: Gujarat Titans' seasoned seamer Ishant Sharma has been handed one demerit point and fined 25 per cent of his match fees after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during their fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. The Indian Premier League (IPL) released a statement on Monday confirming that Ishant had admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted match referee Javagal Srinath's sanction.

Statement from the IPL

"Ishant Sharma, Bowler, Gujarat Titans has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday," the statement read. "Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding."

Poor figures in one-sided match

The 36-year-old had a difficult outing against the Sunrisers. He gave away 53 runs in his four overs — the most expensive spell in the match — and was substituted for Sherfane Rutherford during the 13th over of Gujarat’s innings.

Struggles continue this season

Ishant has had a tough start to the season. Across three matches, he has conceded 107 runs in just eight overs and taken only one wicket, making him the most expensive bowler in the current edition of the tournament.

Titans fight back with the ball

Despite Ishant’s expensive spell, Gujarat Titans managed to contain the Sunrisers to a below-par 152/8. The rest of the bowling attack delivered a disciplined performance to keep Hyderabad’s big hitters in check.

Gill leads clinical chase

Shubman Gill then guided the chase with a calm and assured knock. Despite losing a couple of early wickets, the GT skipper remained unbeaten on 61 from 43 balls. His efforts helped Gujarat seal a comfortable 7-wicket victory with plenty of overs to spare. The win, their third in four games, lifted them to second place on the points table.
