Bengaluru: 'BJP Central Leadership to Decide on By-Election Candidate'
Bengaluru: BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra has stated that the decision on the party's candidate for the Channapatna Assembly by-election will be taken at the national level.
Speaking here on Tuesday, Vijayendra said that former Minister C.P. Yogeshwar has expressed his desire to contest from this constituency, which is not wrong. Yogeshwar has a strong support base in this region. However, since BJP and JD(S) are now part of the NDA, the decision on the candidate's name will be taken after deliberations between the national leaders of both parties.
No Objection to Second Padayatra
Vijayendra also said that if the Padayatra from Kudalsangam to Ballari strengthens the party organization, then senior party leaders may grant permission for it. He has no objection to this Padayatra.
Farmers Concerned About Water Availability
Vijayendra criticized the state government's negligence, which has resulted in 98,000 cusecs of water from the Tungabhadra dam going waste. This has left farmers, who are dependent on the dam for irrigation, worried about their crops. The dam is full, and farmers had planned to take two crops of paddy this year. However, due to the uncertainty over water availability, they are now unsure if they will even get water for one crop. Vijayendra emphasized that it is the state government's responsibility to provide compensation to the affected farmers.
