‘BBC has extraordinary credibility’: CM Ashok Gehlot on IT raids at BBC offices

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on February 14 reacted to the recent income tax raids on the offices of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). He said that the BBC has 'extraordinary credibility' and that the Centre must clarify the reason behind the raids.

CM Gehlot added that such acts will 'bring a bad name to the country’.

CM Gehlot’s remarks came after, the Income Tax Department officials conducted 'surveys' at the BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai earlier today.

This comes amid a raging controversy over a BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Further slamming the Central Government, CM Gehlot highlighted the issues of price rise and unemployment in the country.

“Nobody is focusing on price rise and unemployment is increasing. Exam papers are being leaked in almost every state,” he said.

The Rajasthan Chief Minister also took a pot shot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent visit to Dausa, where he slammed the Congress-led state government on various issues.

“PM didn't talk about the 13 districts affected by water scarcity, their govt in the state made the scheme so why is he hindering that scheme for these districts? PM misled the people in the state,” he said.

On February 12, PM Modi visited Dausa and inaugurated a section of Delhi-Mumbai expressway.

CM Gehlot has responded to the remarks made by PM Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding his reading of the old budget in the state assembly. He acknowledged that it was a mistake, but criticized them for insulting Rajasthan on a national level.

Taking a dig at CM Gehlot, PM Modi said that this shows the Congress party’s lack of vision.

Addressing a rally in Rajasthan’s Dausa after inaugurating the Delhi-Dausa-Lalsot section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Sunday, PM Modi said, “What happened during the budget is being discussed all across. I agree that anyone can make a mistake. But it also tells that Congress has no vision or weight."
