Will this unique campaign help in cutting down GST rates levied on sanitary napkins?

GST has become the most debatable topic after the bill got the approval from the Parliament of India in 2017. GST ( Goods and Services Tax) rates on various goods and services brought some positive and negative hopes across the nation.

A unique way for fulfilling the demand to bring down the levied rates on sanitary napkins has been raised by a group of students from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. Students have launched a campaign to decrease the 12 percent GST rates by writing a message on sanitary pads to PM Narendra Modi. Their demand is to eliminate the price as well as make the product free of cost.

According to the reports by ANI, this campaign was started on 4th January this year and netizens are in full support to this campaign.

Students decided to raise their voice on the issue to create awareness about the harassment faced by the women and to encourage women empowerment. Their target is to send their message to PM Modi which will be done when they will collect hundreds of napkins with messages.

It is the belief of the students that it is not only the need of Gwalior women but also the need of women of the entire nation and they feel that PM Modi is the only leader who could solve their problem by removing the GST rates from sanitary napkins or making it available for free of cost.

"Sanitary napkins have been placed under 12 per cent GST. Women from rural areas use others things during their menstrual days, which is fatal. Instead of giving subsidy, it has been placed under the luxury item. Therefore, we have started this campaign aiming to send 1000 pads to the government by March 3," said Hari Mohan, a student.

He added that if clean napkins will be made available for free, then the women will stay healthy.
