The Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS) had challenged Shastri during a Ramkatha event in Nagpur last week, but the godman left the event prematurely, leading to questions about his alleged abilities.
A video of the incident went viral on social media. Shastri has since claimed that the incident was a conspiracy, while MANS has accused the Maharaj of the Bageshwar Dham of promoting superstition and has called for police action against him.

- As per Hindustan Times, Bageshwar Dham Sarkar is a 26-year-old self-styled godman from Madhya Pradesh, associated with Chhatarpur’s Bageshwar Dham temple.
- Times Now reports that he comes from a poor family and spent his childhood in poverty, living in a mud house.
- His father was a priest and he completed his primary education from a government school in his village.
- Thousands of followers attend Shastri's speeches in Gada village, Chhatarpur. According to News18, his grandfather was associated with the Nirmohi Akhara.
- Shastri is believed to have ‘miraculous or supernatural powers’, including mind-reading abilities and helps those who seek help.
- Followers say that he calls unfamiliar persons during his pravachans and writes a ‘parcha’ before their arrival, consisting of their name and other information. Due to this ‘miracle’ of Bageshwar Dham ‘Maharaj’, he has a big following.
- Shastri is against religious conversions and has vowed to stop the practice and also ensure ‘Ghar Wapsi’ of maximum number of people. "We have to focus on unity among hindus and boycott those who speaks against Sanatana dharma," he said, according to ANI.
