West Bengal: Babul Supriyo’s car vandalised in Asansol; BJP leader alleges TMC workers behind attack

Bharatiya Janata Party Parliamentarian Babul Supriyo’s car vandalised after violence broke out outside a polling booth in West Bengal’s Asansol on Monday during fourth phase polling for a national election. BJP MP blames Mamata Banerjee’s TMC workers for the alleged attack.

According to ANI reports, the clashes reportedly broke out between TMC workers and security personnel at polling booth number 199 in Asansol. A TMC polling agent said 'no BJP polling agent was present at the booth.'

Babul Supriyo had a heated argument with the poll officials at the booth after booth capture were also reported from some booths.

"I will take central forces with me. People are saying give us central forces, let us vote," Supriyo alleged.

"Mamata Banerjee is scared of democracy, that's why this is happening," Mr Supriyo told reporters."Voters are not being allowed to vote," alleged Babul Supriyo.

BJP delegation including Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Vijay Goel & Anil Baluni will meet Election Commission today over the issue of poll-related violence during polling in West Bengal.

"Our fight is to establish democracy. It is shameful that I am saying this in a democratic country," he told reporters.

According to reports, the clash broke out in West Bengal’s Asansol district after Trinamool Congress workers insisted that polling to be held despite the absence of central forces, which the BJP and CPI(M) workers opposed.

West Bengal police used batons to control violence outside polling booth where BJP and Trinamool workers clash was reported.
