Udham Singh Nagar (Uttarakhand): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the draft for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is almost complete, with the government committee to submit proposals by June 30.

Draft for Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand Almost Finished

Chief Minister Dhami revealed that the drafting process for the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand is nearly finished. The BJP's commitment to implementing the UCC was a key promise during the state's last assembly elections, and Dhami promptly formed a committee comprising five members to oversee its progress.

Committee Led by Former Supreme Court Judge Makes Significant Progress

Under the guidance of former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, the committee has made substantial headway in drafting the UCC. Chief Minister Dhami stated that approximately 90 percent of the necessary work has been completed, bringing the implementation of the UCC closer to realization.

Chief Minister Expects Nationwide Adoption of Uniform Civil Code

Chief Minister Dhami expressed his expectation that other states across the country will also adopt the Uniform Civil Code. By establishing uniformity in civil laws, Dhami believes that a cohesive legal framework can be achieved for the benefit of the entire nation.

Opposition Party Accuses BJP of Vote Bank Politics

However, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA and party General Secretary, Rafiqul Islam, criticized the BJP, claiming that their intention to implement the UCC is merely a political tactic to secure votes. Islam argued that the BJP has been unable to implement the UCC in several states where they hold power, suggesting that their motives may be driven by electoral considerations rather than genuine commitment.
