Shocking! Coimbatore doctors removes 33.2 kg of 'world's heaviest' ovarian cancer tumor successfully; create a new record

Owing to gaining weight due to the age factor, Vasantha, an agricultural labourer from Ooty in Tamil Nadunoticed her tummy but ignored it thinking it was due to the health and growing age.

She had no pain or discomfort in the performing the daily chorus of her life until the tummy size increased to an abnormal state. On visiting a local hospital, the doctors (surgeons) found a large tumor in the abdomen of the lady and thereafter refused to perform the surgery as they said that the chances of her survival was very slim and low.

Vasantha’s husband could not hold his tears and kept crying in the bus, seeing to this his co-passenger referred the duo to a Coimbatore hospital, to Dr. Senthil Kumar, who investigated the patient and formed a team to remove the tumor, which in turn became the world’s heaviest ovarian cancer tumor ever removed so far.

"When the patient came to us, she weighed 75 kg and the tumour we removed weighed 33.5 kg. The patient is now doing well and weighs around 42 kg," Dr Kumar told news agency ANI.

"While heavier ovarian tumours have been removed before, they were benign or non-cancerous in nature. With this surgery, we have created the record of removing world's heaviest ovarian cancer tumour in the world weighing 33.5 kg," he said.

Dr. Kumar while talking about the difficulties they faced during the operation, said “The main difficulties we faced was in giving her anesthesia and ensuring that there was minimum blood loss during the surgery. A highly competent team and the most sophisticated machines and instruments were used to ensure this."
