Air India plane hit Trichy wall at 250 kmph but flew for four hours before landing Mumbai; pilots punished

The Air India Express Boeing 737-800 hurled down the Trichy airport runway at a speed of 250 kilometres per hour, and had struck directly into the poles at the end of the runway, then rammed into the borders of the wall but still managed to fly at the end.

Surprisingly, none of the passengers (136) and the crew members on board of IX 611 were injured, the flight was leaving for Dubai, which had to make an emergency landing in Mumbai. Although the pictures of the flight after it landed was horrific and severe but luckily, no damage was done.

As per a statement given by Air India Express, ''after flight IX 611 from Trichy to Dubai had taken off from Trichy at about 1.30am today, it was reported by local Airport officials at Trichy, that they have observed that [the] aircraft might have come in contact with the airport perimeter wall.''

Though the commanding pilot ''reported that the aircraft systems were operating normally,'' but a decision was taken to make an emergency landing in Mumbai as a “precautionary measure.''

The pilot who were in command of the Air India Boeing, D Ganesh Babu and the First Officer, Captain Anurag have been pulled off from the roster of Air India Express’s pilot, while an investigation is pending in this very serious incident where passengers had a narrow escape.

In May 2010, an Air India Express Boeing 737-800 from Dubai with 166 people onboard, over ran the runway on landing at Mangalore airport. 158 people were killed.
