Rajasthan: People perform ‘havan’ in Jodhpur to mark their protest against Lumpy disease spread
People on September 21 performed ‘havan’ outside the office of the District Collectorate (DC) as a mark of protest against the Lumpy disease that has been affecting the cattle in Rajasthan. They also submitted a memorandum to the DC to register their protest.
According to State Executive Member of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, Sarwan Choudhary, people are anguished because of the death of a large number of cattle due to the disease.
The protesting people have also demanded the government to issue a compensation of Rs 50,000 for their dead cattle and have also asked for proper treatment for the cows suffering from the disease, he added.
Meanwhile, an isolation centre has also opened in Udaipur where the cattle suffering from the disease are kept.
"The disease is spreading rapidly as the healthy cattle often come in contact with the infected ones. The isolation centres have been opened here to treat the infected animals," said the Additional Director of the Animal Husbandry Department.
Yesterday, the Bharatiya Janata Party held a massive protest in Jaipur over the death of thousands of cattle in Rajasthan due to Lumpy skin disease. The protest was led by Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia.

On September 19, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the addressal of the dreadful disease is his government’s priority however the vaccines for the same would be given by the Centre.
Gujarat, Maharashtra and Punjab are among the other states where cases of the dreadful lumpy skin disease have been reported.
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar on August 10 launched the ‘Made in India’ vaccine Lumpi-ProVac to protect the cattle from Lumpy skin disease.
