In a spine chilling incident, a 52-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and stabbed his daughter on Thursday over his missing name in a wedding card. The incident took place in Thankarpada area in Mumbai’s Kalyan and police had launched a manhunt to catch the accused, who is an autorickshaw driver. He was later nabbed from Vasargaon in Thane district on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Mohan Mahajan murdered his wife with a chopping knife over a fight after he found his name was missing from the invitation card of his daughter's upcoming wedding. A case has been registered against Mahajan under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of murder and attempt to murder by the Kalyan police.
According to reports, the woman and daughter used to live in Thankarpada area for two years after the accused abandoned his family and moved to a different home.
Reportedly, Mahajan came back home on Thursday after he came to know that his daughter was about to get married. He then got into a heated argument with his wife when she told him that his name was not on the wedding invite. Infuriated by his missing name, the accused stabbed his wife to death with a kitchen knife. The accused Mahajan also stabbed his daughter.
After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene, while neighbours rushed the two victims to a nearby hospital. The wife was declared dead while the daughter’s condition is critical as she has suffered severe injuries and is being kept under medical observation for now.
