MeToo: Ex-Union Minister MJ Akbar to record his statement against journalist Priya Ramani in Delhi court today

Former Union Minister MJ Akbar will appear in New Delhi's Patiala House court today to record his statement against journalist Priya Ramani in connection with a defamation suit filed by him against her. Priya Ramani had accused him of sexual harassment. The court will begin pre-summoning evidence in the case today.

On October 17, MJ Akbar resigned as a junior foreign minister following the allegations made by 15 women journalist, who accused him of sexual misconduct during his stint as the editor of The Asian Age.

A 67-year-old Mr Akbar has been named in the #MeToo movement by several former colleagues that started in India. Abkar then issued a statement over his resignation that he is seeking justice in the court for which he is stepping down as the Union Minister. As per reports, PM Modi asked MJ Akbar to step down as Union Minister over #MeToo allegations by women journalists.

Akbar was on an official tour when the allegations against him were made out by more than 10 women journalists across the country. An outrage by the media, activists and other women organization led to a demand of resignation of MJ Akbar from the post of minister.
