Meet Goa CM Pramod Sawant's wife, who leads BJP's Mahila Morcha

Hours after the death of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Pramod Sawant has become the 13th newly sworn-in Goa CM on Tuesday at 2:00 am. The new CM of Gao, an MLA from Sanquelim constituency took the charge of the CM hours after last rites of Manohar Parrikar performed with full state honours.

45-year-old CM is an Ayurveda practitioner by profession. He was also serving as the speaker of Goa Assembly before sworn-in as Goa CM.

However, Governor administered the oath to 11 other ministers, including from BJP's allies Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and the Goa Forward Party (GFP).

Before taking the oath of CM, Dr Sawant has resigned from his position of Goa Legislative Assembly’s Speaker. While speaking to reporters, the new CM said that BJP has given him this opportunity and he also credited the late CM Parrikar for bringing him into politics.

As per the reports, many people have said that Dr Sawant is as simple as like the Manohar Parrikar, who is famous for his simplicity and positive attitude towards his work. Even the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha has also described him as ‘humble, down to earth person’.

Interestingly, Sawant’s wife Sulakshana Sawant could be the new motivation for other Indian women as she is not only a housewife but also a current President of BJP Mahila Morcha in Goa.

Besides, she is a Chemistry teacher at the Shri Shantadurga Higher Secondary School in Bicholim. 

Also, Pramod and Sulakshana have one daughter who studies in Class 6.

As per the reports of IANS, Sulakshana said that Manohar Parrikar was like a father figure to her and her husband.

After her husband was elected as the CM of the state, she said, ‘It is a day of mixed emotions for us. We have lost one of our greatest leaders, Manohar Parrikar who was like a father figure to us.’

She also told that more than the feeling of happiness and joy, they are feeling a sense of great responsibility.

Manohar Parrikar died at the age of 63 on 17th March at his son’s residence after battling with his pancreatic cancer.
