Love, Dancer Girlfriend, Dubai Job: This is how an IITian takes to crime
A chemical engineering graduate from IIT-Madras decided to leave his well-paying job at a multinational company in Dubai and return to Bihar's Muzaffarpur with his girlfriend to pursue a life of crime.
Hemant Kumar Raghu is behind the bars and may be regretting his decision to quit his job and coming to Muzaffarpur. He was arrested this week with his three partners for allegedly stealing Rs 2.2 lakh from a woman.
According to police, some cash, two stolen motorbikes along with arms and ammunition were recovered from the accused persons.
During the interrogation, Raghu, who hails from Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, revealed that who he left his high-paying Dubai job and became a criminal in Bihar after meeting and falling for a night club dancer from Muzaffarpur.
Police stated that Hemant convinced her girlfriend to quit her nightclub job and, in return, agreed to accompany her to her hometown in Muzaffarpur.
Hemant Kumar Raghu spent all the money he saved in Dubai during his 15-year career as a chemical engineer and chose a life of crime to ‘keep his girlfriend happy’.
According to Muzaffarpur (East) DSP Manoj Pandey, Raghu built a network with criminals in Muzaffarpur and would pick his targets with precise planning. "He has clearly turned into a professional criminal and confessed to his involvement in several crimes across the district," he said.
The IITian appeared on the police's radar during a probe to crack a looting case filed on April 11. The police team traced the gang in Madhopur and arrested Raghu from Mithanpura.
