EC sends notice to Railways, Civil Aviation Ministry over PM Modi's pic on tickets, cups
After the snub from the Election Commission over the display of PM Narendra Modi’s picture on the tickets and cups, the poll watchdog has sent a notice to the Railway and Civil Aviation Ministry for a response over the matter.
As per information, the clause 7 of the Model Code of Conduct might have been violated, which states that “issue of advertisement at the cost of public exchequer ... regarding achievements with a view to furthering the prospects of the party in power shall be scrupulously avoided.”
The case pertains to the picture of PM Narendra Modi printed on the cups of tea served in the Rajdhani Express with the slogan mentioned ‘Mai Bhi Chowkidar’ and in a boarding pass of Air India, a PM Modi and Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani’s picture were printed with details about the development projects in Gujarat.
News agency ANI tweeted about the both the incidents notice sent by poll watchdog, “Election Commission sends second notice to Ministry of Railways over the matter of PM Narendra Modi's pictures printed on railway tickets. The Ministry has been asked to file a reply by today.”
In another tweet, to the Civil Aviation Ministry it read, “Election Commission sends a second notice to Ministry of Civil Aviation, seeking a reply on Madurai Airport matter where PM Narendra Modi's picture was seen on boarding passes. The Ministry has been asked to file a reply by today.”
The Model Code of Conduct came into force as soon as the Election Commission announced the date for polling.
