Congress' CM designate Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, Kamal Nath to take oath today; all eyes on Opposition unity
After the Congress won in the Hindi heartland, the race for the chief ministerial posts had begun and today is the oath taking ceremony of the CM designate in Rajasthan, MP and Chhattisgarh.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are some of the dignitaries who are attending the swearing-in-ceremony of CM designate Ashok Gehlot and deputy CM Sachin Pilot at the Albert hall in Jaipur. Former CM Vasundhara Raje is also in the attendance.
In the contention of probable guests were the Opposition leaders Akhilesh Yadav and BSP’s Mayawati, who have said that they are not participating in the swearing-in-ceremonies in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
TMC’s Mamata Banerjee has said that one of the representative of her party will attend the function as she cannot be present due to the death anniversary of her mother.
After a hue and cry over the CM candidate in Rajasthan and a show of strength of power by both the leaders who aere in contention, the Congress high command led by Rahul Gandhi decided the old guard Ashok Gehlot to helm the post of Chief Minister and asked Sachin Pilot to be his deputy.
In Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath was the front runner amongst the others like Jyotiraditya Scindia and CP Joshi. In Chattisgarh, the situation remained tensed till 14th December but eventually, the Patan MLA and the Pradesh Congress Committee chief Bhupesh Baghel was chosen to be the CM, after his competitor and Opposition leader TS Singh Deo recommended his name.
