DMK's MK Stalin announces Rahul Gandhi as PM candidate for the 2019 polls, Opposition disagrees
At the DMK event yesterday in Chennai, MK Stalin announced Congress president Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
On the stage was a the Opposition parade which had gathered to unveil a statue of the DMK patriarch late M Karunanidhi, who had passed away in August this year. Chief guest Sonia Gandhi was clapping ahead of the announcements by Stalin and Rahul Gandhi graciously accepted the favor and challenge posed by the DMK president.
Although, not all Opposition leaders have agreed to portray Rahul Gandhi as the potential PM candidate due to their respective reservations with the Congress president. MK Stalin had yesterday announced that “Rahul has got the ability to defeat fascist Modi government. Let's strengthen Rahul Gandhi's hands, let's save the country.”
As per the sources, reported to the NDTV, Opposition heavyweights like Samajwadi Party, Telgu Desam Party, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, Farooq Abdullah, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janta Dal and the Communist Party of Inida (Marxist) have clearly disagreed with the choice of MK Stalin.
Ghanshyam Tiwari, spokesperson of the SP told NDTV that, “We have stood steadfast that the mandate of 2019 would determine who would lead the government that is formed after that. If we read the elections right, the current mandate is also one that is based on agenda rather than leadership.”
Also, Mamata Banerjee is vying for herself to be in the race to become the Prime Minister if the united Opposition comes to power and Mayawati will not be attending the oath taking ceremony of the Congress’ CM designate today, it might be a sense of reservation against Congress president, who might be jumping the boats after winning the Hindi heartland.
