CBI arrests officer Devender Kumar in bribery case filed against the agency's Special Director Rakesh Asthana

The battle of the Central Bureau of Investigation has become rigorous in just a few days as the agency filed an FIR in the bribery case against the No 2 of the agency, and special director Rakesh Asthana.

Today, in a recent development with severe ramifications, the CBI has arrested official Devender Kumar, deputy SP of SIT in CBI, in the bribery case filed agaisnt the special director. The infighting between the two big-wigs of the agency has now reached to a surface, and the case has become a talking point of whole nation.

As the elections in different states are approaching, a tussle in between the officers among the most powerful and significant agency of the nation, will hamper the prospects of the BJP as the CBI is seen 'a caged parrot', observed by the Supreme Court in 2012.

The accused in the bribery case Moin Qureshi gave a statement to the CBI, accepting that he paid a bribe to one of the officers in the CBI but did not take Asthana's name directly.

Rakesh Asthana has sent a dozen of complaints against CBI director Alok Verma, alleging that he is trying to frame him in false cases and that he took the bribe in the Moin Qureshi bribery scandal.

Rakesh Asthana even said that director Verma is directly interfering in the functioning and working of special director, trying to express his animosity througfh the use of power.

Devender Kumar, the investigating officer of the CBI was named in the FIR No. 13A/2018 which also included Manoj Prasad and Somesh Prasad. The CBI also booked the special director R&AW in the FIR but has not made him the prime accused.
