Amit Shah defends Yogi Adityanath in the first reaction to UP By-polls, says 'Yogi's is among best BJP government, UP results not referendum'

The coalition of SP and BSP has led shocking debacle of BJP in Yogi Adityanaths home constituency in UP By-polls. After the unexpected defeat of the party BJP chief makes out his first reaction defending the Yogi Agityanath government in Uttar Pradesh and said that the by election results not a referendum on the party's dispensation in the state.

The BJP chief in his first reaction over the party debacle in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha By-polls said UP government was one of the best among the BJP dispensations in the states.

"The party has taken it (the bypoll outcome) seriously and will minutely analyse the results of these polls," Mr Shah said in an interview to Zee News.

Mr Shah further adding his reaction said, there could be many reasons behind the party's defeat in the By-elections. The voting percentage was low and at the same time, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) came together, he said.

Commenting on the SP-BSP coalition in UP, Amit Shah said that the BJP was confident that it would bag more than 50 percent votes in the state in By-elections next year. Further adding he said, SP-BSP joining hands was mode for their survival.

Mr Shah said his party is ready to take on a SP-BSP alliance if it happens in 2019.

"Yogi's government is doing a wonderful job in the state. It is one of the best BJP governments we have. I don't think the by-election results are a referendum on Yogi's government," Mr Shah said.

Taking dig at Congress over celebrating the by-polls results the BJP chief said, it is hilarious that the party whose candidates lost deposit on both seats was in a jubilant mood.

Mocking Congress’s attempts to put together an alliance of all like-minded parties against the BJP, Shah welcomed the move and said, “If it happens it will be a good signal for us. It shows that all parties have to come together to take on the Modi government.”
