Amid reports of rift, Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad says, 'We will back BSP candidates, I would make Mayawati ji PM now'

The Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad has said that he is ready to support Bahujan Samaj Party in the upcoming polls, and would make Mayawati as the prime minister.

The Bhim Army was formed to strengthen the voices of Dalit and the backward classes, who have been struggling due to the caste differences and oppression.

The Dalit vote bank has been centered around the politics of Mayawati and the traditional voter has seen associated himself with the blue colored elephant. But, with the late entry of Chandrashekhar Azad, there is a fear in the BSP camp that the vote might get divided and Bhim Army could act as the vote cutter.

Chandrashekhar, clearing the air yesterday, in an interview to The Indian Express, said “If things are left to me, I will remove Modiji, make her the PM right away. It is all about choices. But it is a democratic country and we have to follow certain rules.”

On being asked about Gujarat’s Jignesh Mevani, the Bhim Army chief said, “Both of us are Dalits. Hence, we are brothers.”

Bhim Army is being seen as the successor of the BSP, and on this argument, Chandrashekhar said, “The BSP is a party. Why does it need to have a successor? Does the BJP or Congress have successors?… Those who are working will stay. We all are working for the country. People who are working should get a chance. The youth of our country should definitely get a chance to be part of its politics. But not people like me.”
