Shocking! Former Indian coach arrested in connection with IPL 2019 betting charges

Former Indian women’s cricket team coach Tushar Arothe was arrested in connection with Indian Premier League (IPL) betting charges along with 18 others. The incident took place in Vadodara, Gujarat, where Arothe was operating a cafe named ‘Cafe Stock Exchange’ with two other partners Hemang Patil and Nischal Mitha.

The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) conducted raids on the cafe which they have been closely monitoring. DCB arrested 19 people including Tushar Arothe and his partners Hemang Patel and Nischal Mitha. Their vehicles and phones have been seized by the DCB. DCB officials said Hemang Patil was betting on a match between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab on Monday.

“We had received a tip-off about the betting activities at the Café Stock Exchange in Alkapuri where a big screen was placed to relay IPL matches live. We kept a watch there and conducted a raid on Monday night. Some people sitting in a shed next to the café were involved in online betting on the IPL match,” DCP Crime Branch JS Jadeja told the Times of India.

The recent betting allegation created another controversy after former Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi claimed about a alleged match-fixing that took place in a match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, where Rishabh Pant was caught on stump mic predicting a boundary in Sandeep Lamichhane’s over.
