David Warner returns with a bang in international cricket, scores 89 in his first official match
David Warner has already proved his worth when he made his comeback through the Indian Premier League where he had scored 692 runs from 12 matches and won the orange cap at the end of the season. Yesterday was David Warner’s first official game for Australia after his 1-year ban got over. His first match was also the first match for Australia in World Cup 2019.
David Warner scored an unbeaten 89 runs to take his team home after he opened the innings with skipper Aaron Finch. Warner’s 89-run knock included eight boundaries and zero sixes. His fantastic knock earned him the man of the match award in his first match.
Aaron Finch’s 66 off 49 also played a crucial part in setting the stage for Warner as he himself mentioned in the post-match interview. Usman Khawaja scored 15, Steve Smith scored 18 but was dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman when Australia needed just 3 runs to win. Glenn Maxwell came in and finished it with a four on the very first ball he faced.
Australia won the match by 7 wickets as they chased down the target of 208 runs in just 34.5 overs. Afghanistan, on the other hand, couldn’t make many runs as they were bundled out for 207 runs in 38.2 overs. Rahmat Shah scored 43, Najibullah Zadran scored 51, skipper Gulbadin Naib scored 31, Rashid Khan was in T20 mode as he scored 27 off just 11 balls.
