Uttarakhand: Hostel warden assaults, sexually harasses 9-year-old boy stranded during lockdown in Dehradun

In a harrowing incident that has come to open from Dehradun, a 9-year-old boy, who was stuck at a boarding school during the coronavirus induced lockdown, was allegedly assaulted and sexually harassed by a hostel warden whose age was 30 years.

The incident happened within the jurisdiction of Raipur Police Station about a month ago. The victim is a 3rd standard student at the boarding school and came from Uttar Pradesh. Because of the sudden lockdown, his parents were not able to come pick him up. Reportedly, he was the only boarder who was left in school hostel.

The alleged crime came to light when the victim’s parents went to the school to take their child home on Saturday. SK Rawat, Sub-inspector told HT that the victim’s parents lodged a compliant alleging that the hostel warden assaulted and sexually harassed their kid.

In the complaint, the parent’s stated that their kid was the only one who was stranded in the school hostel during the lockdown. They also alleged that in the beginning, the staffers were reluctant to let the child go with them. However, they permitted him to go only when the parents requested.

The victim then told his harrowing ordeal to his parents. He told them that he was sexually harassed and physically assaulted by hostel warden Harish Kumar. Moreover, he also made the child clean his room. The parents immediately approached the Raipur Police Station and filed a complaint against Kumar.

Following the complaint, the police arrested hostal warden Kumar from the school and booked him under sections 321 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 9/10 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
