Covid-19: Seven cities that account for nearly half of nationwide coronavirus tally in India

Seven cities in India responsible for almost half of the country’s coronavirus total which obeseved record rise of approximately 10,000 cases on Sunday, as per the data from health ministry.

Maharashtra’s Mumbai is hit the hardest with 47,354 confirmed cases. National capital comes behind with 27,564 cases. Chennai is third with 20,993 cases and Kolkata has 2,684 cases. The total number of these cities add up to 98,595.

Other serious urban clusters struck by the coronavirus outbreak includes Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Maharashtra’s Pune and Madhya Pradesh’s Indore.

There are 13,968 cases of coronavirus in Ahmedabad, 8,049 in Pune and Indore has 3,722. when these figures are added to the above total, the all in all number comes to 1,24,334 or 50% of the nationwide coronavirus infections.

India on Sunday reported 9,971 cases and 287 deaths, another highest spike, recorded in the past 24 hours, according to health ministry.

With a total of 2,46,628 cases, India is the fifth worst affected nation after the US, Brazil, Russia and the UK, according to America’s Johns Hopkins University.

An increase in numbers comes a day before many public places, like malls, restaurants and places of worship, are slated to open on  Monday

There are 120,406 active cases and 6,929 people have lost their lives after contracting the highly infectious disease, according to the health ministry’s dashboard.

With 119,292 patients cured of coronavirus, India’s recovery rate has now gone up to 48.36%.
