In a shocking incident brought to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, a 19-year-old woman was found dead in the washroom of a banquet hall on Monday. According to reports, the woman's dead body was recovered during a wedding event. The victim's family has alleged rape and strangulation.
The victim’s discontended family also stated that cops are trying to protect a constable who was found in a room attached to the washroom. Reportedly, the police constable was in an inebriated state.
SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary, stated "We recovered the body from a washroom attached to a room where a drunk police constable was found sleeping. A case of murder has been lodged in this connection. Forensic experts have also been pressed into service. We are investigating further. "
According to a report in The Indian Express, the constable was among the guests attending the wedding. The police said that they were told that the woman had gone missing from the venue on Monday night.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Poonam Sirohi said, the victim's family had found her dead body by the time police arrived at the crime spot. The victim's family had allegedly beaten up the police constable stating that he was responsible for the murder and rape. Sirohi added, "We cannot confirm the rape charge as the autopsy report is still awaited. "
As maintained by the victim’s family, guests in the wedding had a fight with the bouncers after the banquet hall managers refused to share the CCTV recording of the night. The police station in-charge said that the role of the constable is being investigated and action will be taken if he is culpable.
