UP: Minor girl allegedly raped and murdered, victim's bare body found from forest

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Uttara Pradesh’s Mahrajganj district, police said on Tuesday.

A half bare dead body of the victim was discovered in a pool of blood in a forest area, which is around 500 meters away from her home on Tuesday, they said.

Following the information, police officials including Maharajganj Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gupta, rushed to the crime spot and sent the body for autopsy.

It is suspected to be a case of gang-rape and murder, said police. They further added that the girl was the eldest among three sisters with her father working in another city.

According to the police, the victim’s mother had gone to the jungle area to fetch grass for her cattle and had asked her daughter to bring her cycle to carry the grass back home, but the girl never returned to her mother and went missing.

After the victim’s mother reported the matter to the police, they started to look for the girl and found her cycle and slippers in the jungle. The girl’s body was found on Tuesday, said SP Gupta, adding a probe was underway.
