A minor girl, aged five, was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 52-year-old man in Saravanampatti area of Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore on Friday. Following a police complaint by the victim’s parents, a case was lodged and the accused, identified as A Zahir Hussain, was taken into police custody on Sunday.

The accused has been staying in a rented apartment with his family. The accused and the minor victim lives in the same neighbourhood. According to reports, the minor victim was playing with her friends outside her house on Friday. The accused (Hussain), after seeing her, offered her ice-cream. Hussain then took the minor to his house and pulled off the crime.

Reportedly, another neighbour, recorded a video of the incident and showed the clip to the victim’s mother the next day, according to a report by The Times of India (TOI).

Following this, the victim’s parents registered a police complaint with the Saravanampatti police. The case was handed out to the east all-womon police inspector Dowlath Nisha. The inspector filed a case under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and nabbed the accused on Sunday. The accused was taken before a special POCSO court and sent to judicial custody.

This horrifying incident comes days after a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 26-year-old man in UP’s Bijnor district.. The accused, identified as Shahbaz, carried ou the crime when the minor was on her way to school. He allegedly enticed her to an abandoned building and sexually assaulted her.

The minor victim later went back home and told her horrific ordeal to her parents. Subsequently, a case was lodged and the accused was taken into police custody.

In another incident reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal, a man allegedly raped and murdered his daughter. The accused carried out the crime because he was angry with his daughter for marrying a man from a different caste.

The accused was booked under Sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). His son has also been taken into police custody by the police for his alleged connivance in the crime.
