Shraddha Walkar Murder Case: Aftab Poonawala's judicial custody extended by 14 days; accused demands law books

In the latest development in the brutal Shraddha Walkar murder case, a Delhi court on January 10 extended the judicial custody of accused Aftab Amin Poonawala for 14 days. In view of the biting cold in Delhi, the court has also instructed the jail authorities to provide him with warm clothes.

Interestingly, Aftab has demanded some law books to study in prison. Before this, the court extended Poonawala’s custody on December 6, 2022 by four days.

Aftab Amin Poonawala is accused of killing his live-in partner and chopping her body into 35 pieces.

On January 4, the Delhi Police said that the mitochondrial DNA report of hair and bones found in the forest area of Mehrauli matched with the DNA of Shraddha’s father and brother.

The bones have been sent to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for post-mortem examination.

In November, Shraddha's father, Vikash Walkar, a resident of Palghar (Maharashtra), lodged a missing complaint of his daughter in Mumbai.

During the initial investigation, Shraddha's last location was found in Delhi, and on the basis of this, the case was transferred to Delhi Police.

During the investigation, it was found that Aaftab and Shraddha had come to Delhi and started living in a rented apartment in the Chhattarpur Pahadi area. The police during the course of the investigation, traced Aftab and nabbed him.

Aaftab, who works at a call centre in Gurugram, confessed to strangling Shraddha Vikas Walkar and chopping her body into 35 pieces for over two days, storing them into a refrigerator (for three months) and dumping the body parts piece by piece in a forest near Chhattarpur and Qutub Minar.

The couple, who are both from Maharashtra, lived together in Vasai (West), Maharashtra, till February 2022. They then traveled to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand before arriving in Delhi.
