Odisha: Teacher arrested for sharing false information about coronavirus on social media

Coronavirus outbreak in India has affected over 100 people and killed two people till the date. Because of the deadly virus, people are getting panic and amid such chaos, some miscreants are spreading fake information about the infection. One such case has reported in Odisha where a teacher shared false facts about COVID-19 on social media.

However, police immediately took strict action against the man and arrested him for allegedly posting fake information on social media about COVID-19 infection in a village.

The incident took place in Odisha’s Kalahandi district where a teacher shared a piece of rumour-mongering information about coronavirus.

The accused has been identified as Bindu Mahananda, a resident of Dudkel village in Golamunda Block, who wrote in his post that a youth, residing in Golamunda Block’ Khalikani village has contracted the virus. He also wrote that the infected youth, who had returned from Bengaluru, has quarantined himself in his house.

The matter was brought to light and police officials conducted a probe. In the investigation, police found that the teacher was spreading fake news about the COVID-19 infection and arrested him on Saturday.

While speaking to the Times of India, Kalahandi SP B Gangadhar said that the act of the accused man has created a situation of panic in the region.

Meanwhile, Odisha police have warned villages not to indulge in such rumours about the coronavirus infection.
