23-year-old youth held captive, tortured and assaulted by lover's family

In a shocking development that came to light from the state of Gujarat, a 23-year-old youth who belonged to a Dalit community was allegedly assaulted and tortured by his girlfriend's family. The youth, who was allegedly kidnapped on 1st October, was saved by the Ahmedabad Police’s Detection of Crime Branch.

The victim, identified as Rahul Chamar. A native of Meghaninagar, Rahul was allegedly abducted by a man, identified as Vinod Datania and his accomplice when he was outside a D-Mart store in Bapurnagar on 1st October.

The accused allegedly beat-up the victim (Rahul) for being in a love affair with Vinod Datania's daughter. In the meantime, the police was notified about the case and a team was set-up. On the night of October 2, the police team received information that the youth was being held captive in Shaherkotda’s Vijay Mill.

According to the Indian Express, When the police arrived at the crime spot, they noticed the victim with injuries on his face and body. As per reports, the accused had tied-up the victim’s (Rahul) hands and legs as well. He was rescued and admitted to a private hospital from where he was later referred to the Civil Hospital.

Following the victim's successful rescue operation, the police took Vinod Datania, Pritesh Datania and Ram into their custody. A police official privy to the matter said that Rahul had sustained injuries on his face and body. As maintained by the cops, the accused have been charged under applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST act.
