High alert after rain and thunderstorms forecast for Haryana and Punjab, govt shuts schools
According to the weather reports predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the authorities from several states raises a high alert in cities like Haryana and Punjab, with the storm advisory issued by IMD.
Following the alert of IMD's warning of thunderstorms in these places, the Haryana government announced to close all schools on Monday and Tuesday.
The Union home ministry, on Sunday, said that as per the weather information, thunderstorms may affect 13 states. The alert came days after when thunderstorms wreaked havoc across the country, claiming at least 124 lives and injuring more than 300.
According to the weather expert [Skymet Weather], the authorities raised alert for Nagaland, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
Alert for Nagaland
Moderate rain and thundershowers may occur at many places with few heavy spells and thunder squall over Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Phek, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto districts of Nagaland during next 24 hours.
Alert for Punjab
Moderate dust storm and thundershowers in some places with hail storm and gusty wind can occur over Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Mansa, Moga, Muktsar, Pathankot, Patiala, Rupnagar, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Sangrur, Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar and Tarn Taran districts of Punjab in from today evening to May 09.
Alert for Rajasthan
Again, Ajmer, Alwar, Baran, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Bundi, Churu, Dausa, Dhaulpur, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jaipur,Jhunjhunun, Karauli, Kota, Nagaur, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar and Tonk the districts of Rajasthan can face dust storm and thundershower with strong gusty winds during next 48 hours.

Alert for Haryana
Places like Ambala, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Gurgaon, Hisar, Jhajjar, Jind, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mahendragarh, Mewat, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat and Yamunanagar districts of Haryana can face moderate dust storm and thundershower from today evening to May 09.
As per the government data, the worst casualty was found in Uttar Pradesh, where 73 people were killed and 91 others injured. In Rajasthan, 35 people were killed and 206 injured. Eight people were killed in Telangana, six in Uttarakhand and two in Punjab; nearly 100 people were injured in these three states.
