Today in history, Sachin Tendulkar became the first man on the planet to register this record under his name

‘God of cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar is regarded as one of the greatest ever to play the game. Sachin was known for his ability to bat on any conditions around the world. Sachin who has 51 Test centuries and 49 ODI centuries took retirement from cricket in 2013 and not only India but the world was mourning.

The Superman from India was the first batsman on earth to hit double-century in one-day international cricket on February 24, 2010. His 147-ball 200 knock came against South Africa, the match India won by 153 runs. Sachin achieved this feat in Gwalior’s Captain Roop Singh Stadium where India won the toss and elected to bat first.

Sachin with his opening partner Virender Sehwag came in to bat but the latter couldn’t survive as he went back to the pavilion after making 9 runs. Then came Dinesh Karthik, who with his 79 run knock made a second-wicket 194 run partnership with Sachin. Sachin made his first hundred from 90 balls with the help of 13 fours. Sachin took 28 balls to hit his next 50 and for the last 50 he took just 19 balls.

In total Sachin’s 147-ball 200 included 25 fours and 3 sixes and thus he became the first batsman in the history of one-day internationals to hit a double-century. MS Dhoni too played an amazing knock of 68 runs to help India put up a mammoth target of 402.

For South Africa AB de Villiers played a fantastic knock of 114 runs but his efforts went in vain as the Proteas were bundled out for 248 runs in 42.5 overs. Sreesanth took 3 wickets, while Jadeja, Nehra and Yusuf took 2 each to help India seize the match.
