Virat Kohli has this to say about India's World Cup clash against Pakistan
Indian skipper Virat Kohli finally opened up about the controversy surrounding India-Pakistan 2019 World Cup clash. The 30-year-old in a pre-match press conference said that he and his team will completely stand by whatever decision Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) and the government takes.
Kohli while taking to the press before T20I series against Australia said, “Our sincere condolences to the families of CRPF soldiers who lost their lives in Pulwama attack. We stand by what the nation wants to do and what the BCCI decides to do.”
Rivalry between India and Pakistan in cricket is world famous and in this year’s World Cup they will clash against each other on June 16 at Old Trafford, Manchester. However, Indian fans and some former cricketers are not happy after 40 CRPF jawans were killed in a terrorist attack in Pulwama. They are urging BCCI to not play against Pakistan is World Cup.
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy of 78 vehicles carrying 2,547 soldiers was attacked by a car bomb in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on February 14. More than 40 CRPF jawans were killed and many others were injured. This is termed as the worst attack on Indian soldiers since 1989 insurgency started in the valley.
India and Pakistan are supposed to play their first match in World Cup after Asia Cup 2018. They will lock horns against each other on June 16 at Old Trafford in Manchester. The World Cup 2019 will start from May 30 in England and Wales. 10 teams will play in a round-robin format and each team plays matches against every other team and the top four team will qualify for the knock-out stages before lifting the coveted trophy on July 14.
