The man who ended Sourav Ganguly's cricketing career hangs his own boots, takes retirement from cricket

Former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell, one of the best batsman to have ever played the game, calls it a day as Australia’s national selector. Chappell was the member of Australia’s national selection panel for three separate terms, from 1984 to 1988, 2010 to 2011 and from 2016 until this year.

Chappell can be credited with the selections of the likes of Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins, Steven Smith and David Warner in recent years, all of whom were chosen at young ages and developed their games after early tastes of international cricket.

In May 2005, he was appointed coach of the Indian national cricket team for a two-year term until the World Cup 2007. This role was the subject of much negative public and media commentary particularly involving his working relationship with former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.

Greg Chappell played a total of 87 Test matches for Australia in which he amassed 7,110 runs at an average of 53.86 with top score of 247 not-out. Chappell also played 74 ODIs for Australia and scored 2,331 runs in total at an average of 40.18.
