Pakistan reappoints Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain, Babar Azam as vice-captain
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) retained Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain of the national team and appoints Babar Azam as vice-captain. PCB has already appointed Misbah-ul-Haq as their new head coach after Mickey Arthur led team failed to perform in the recently concluded World Cup.
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Sarfaraz said he was “honoured” to be re-appointed and that he will do all he can to increase Pakistan's consistency. “I am aware we have not done justice to our potential in ODIs, which has disappointed us as well as our fans," he said. "I am hopeful we will be able to turn things around in the coming season and in this relation. I remain committed to stepping up to the challenge with my performances and captaincy.”
Babar Azam who is No.1 ranked T20 player and third in ODI has previous experience of captaining his team in 2012 Under-19 World Cup.
Pakistan will play a three-match ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka starting September 27. Senior Sri Lankan players have pulled out from the series citing security concern.
