New Zealand born player helps England win their first World Cup against New Zealand
England cricket team led by Eoin Morgan wrote history yesterday as they became the first English team to lift the World Cup. The England cricket team is full of immigrants and one of their players was born in New Zealand and helped his team win the trophy against New Zealand.
Ben Stokes was the main architect of the win as he was awarded the player of the match for his match winning 84 runs. Ben Stokes was born in New Zealand’s Christchurch and moved to Northern England when he was young. His father was a major league rugby player and moved to England after he was appointed to coach Workington Town rugby league club.
England won the trophy because of Ben Stokes. After losing wickets on regular intervals, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler put up a 100-run partnership before Buttler was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson. Ben Stokes kept playing while wickets on the other end were falling like a pack of cards. Ben Stokes helped his team tie the match.
Then the maiden super over of World Cup was played and that too in the final. Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler came in to bat and scored 15 runs. New Zealand needed 16 runs from 6 balls, James Neesham and Martin Guptill came and scored 15. The Super over was a tie as well but the cup was awarded to England on the basis of superior boundary count.
