'Mohammad Amir confessed to spot-fixing after Shahid Afridi slapped him'

Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq claimed that Mohammad Amir had confessed to spot-fixing only after then ODI skipper Shahid Afridi slapped him. Mohammad Amir was found guilty of spot-fixing by the International Cricket Council (ICC) along with Salman Butt and Muhammad Asif.

Talking about the incident, Razzaq said that, “He (Afridi) told me to leave the room but after a while I heard the sound of a slap and then Aamir told the whole truth.” Razzaq revealed the Amir story while speaking to the GNN news channel.

The former all-rounder also talked about how Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) set-up brought bad name to Pakistan cricket.

Razzaq said, “I thought instead of going to the ICC to prove its efficiency, the PCB should have instead directly taken the three players to task despite their denials and sent them back home on some pretext. They should have banned them for a year or so. In the end by not doing this, the PCB spoilt the image of Pakistan cricket worldwide.”

The incident took place during 2010 Pakistan’s tour of England, Mohammad Amir was a young bowler then who faced a 5-year ban by the ICC in 2011. He is the only player out of the three convicted who is playing for Pakistan now and is representing his team in World Cup 2019. Amir took a five-wicket haul against Australia in Pakistan’s fourth game in World Cup 2019.
