Ravi Shastri told this player to be ready for World Cup call-up if there is an injury
Team India’s World Cup campaign is derailed after their star opener Shikhar Dhawan fractured his thumb while playing against Australia. The Indian cricket team is currently facing a dilemma as to whom they should pick in place of the left-handed batsman.
Rishabh Pant is one of the frontrunners for the position, while some are also suggesting Shreyas Iyer, Ambati Rayudu and Ajinkya Rahane’s name as replacements. Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar revealed that coach Ravi Shastri asked him to be prepared as he might get a call-up in case there is an injury in the team.
The 26-year old was taken to England as a net bowler to help Indian batsmen with their practice before the World Cup. Deepak had a good Indian Premier League season with Chennai Super Kings as they reached final where they lost to Mumbai Indians.
However, Rishabh Pant has been called-up as standby and he will be joining the team in Manchester where India will play against their arch-rival Pakistan on June 16.
Team India won their first two games of World Cup 2019 as they defeated South Africa by 6 wickets and Australia by 36 runs. Virat Kohli and boys will play against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on June 13.
