IPL Spot Fixing Case: Supreme Court cancels life ban on Sreesanth; asks BCCI to review punishment

In a partial relief for S Sreesanth in IPL spot-fixing case, the Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the life ban on the Indian cricketer. The top court has asked BCCI o reconsider the punishment of Sreesanth’s lifetime ban in spot-fixing during the 2013 IPL matches.

The Supreme Court in its order asked the BCCI to reconsider S Sreesanth's plea within three months. A Constitutional bench of Supreme Court, headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan, asked the BCCI to decide afresh on the point of the quantum of punishment given to S Sreesanth.

Sreesanth had challenged in the apex court the decision of a division bench of the Kerala High Court restoring the ban imposed on him by the BCCI. A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and K M Joseph had on February 28 reserved the judgement on his plea.

As life ban on Sreesanth has been lifted by the Supreme Court, now he will get the opportunity to be heard by BCCI's disciplinary committee on the quantum of punishment. The Apex court said its order shall have no effect on criminal proceedings pending against S Sreesanth.
